SONG

Alongside her larger scale performances, the more intimate world of chamber music occupies a most important place in Emma’s music making. Her repertoire of Art Song continues to expand, encompassing not only the central French and German works of the nineteenth century, but also a number of very special pieces from the baroque and classical periods.

Emma sings regularly in recital around the UK and recent venues include Brechin Cathedral as part of the Brechin Arts Festival, the Swiss Embassy in London and St. Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh.

Emma enjoys preparing themed recital programmes; most recently a programme of songs based on scottish texts (including Thea Musgrave's A suite o' Bairnsangs and Robert Schumann's Gedichte der Königin Maria Stuart) which she performed at the Brechin Arts Festival with her accompanist and husband, Robin Versteeg.

Programme 2

(from a recital in Hyning Monastery, Carnforth, September 2007 - a programme of music set to religious and spiritual texts)

Music in Hospitals Scotland Scheme
As an artist on Music in Hospitals Scotland, an organisation which arranges professional concerts in care homes and hospices across the country, Emma also enjoys performing in more unusual – and often informal – contexts. The music she sings in this capacity ranges from English and Scottish folksongs, through show numbers by Gershwin, Kern and Porter, to British songs of the Second World War.

OPERA
Emma made her operatic debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as “Second Lady” in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. She has since taken part in opera scenes performances at the Oxenfoord International Summer School in the roles of Susanna – Marriage of Figaro, and Zerlina – Don Giovanni.

Her most recent performance was in the role of Anthony for the world premiere of Richard Peat’s I’m the King of the Castle at the Holywell Music Rooms, Oxford.

"a performance..full of expression and intelligent interpretation. I feel privileged to have had her sing in the opera, and could not imagine her part sung by anybody else".
